Vegan Coca Cola Tofu Knot Skewers Recipe

These are skewers of soft and chewy Craft Tofu Knots, dripping in a sweet and savoury coca cola sauce. Just one of the delicious recipes I made for Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch (Airing 28 August 2022).

My Coca Cola tofu knot skewers are inspired by a Hong Kong classic, Coca Cola chicken wings. Savoury, sweet and sticky, this is the ultimate BBQ marinade. Here, we have applied this classic sauce to our favourite Craft Tofu Knots from our sister brand Tofu Tasty, and served on a skewer for easy sharing with your guests. 

The tofu knots are crisped up before being basted with this coca cola sauce, and then finished off on the grill or barbecue, like Japanese yakitori. 

This dish is inspired by my Hong Kong heritage, where coca cola chicken wings is very popular. This vegan twist using our sister company’s Tofu Tasty’s Craft Tofu Knots is a satisfying and plant-based alternative to chicken or other meats. 

Nothing shouts SUMMER more than skewers on the barbecue, and these will not disappoint. Your vegetarian and vegan friends will love these surprising chewy delights that are full of texture and flavour. What a change from veggie burgers!

Vegan Coca Cola Tofu Knot Skewers - Tofu Tasty Craft Tofu Knots

This recipe does not have many ingredients, but there are lots of stages where you don’t have to do anything, only patiently wait, and you can get busy working on other things. The results are incredibly worth it. 

Satisfying skewers that are vegan friendly are hard to come by - we think we have created the first!

Vegan Coca Cola Tofu Knots Recipe

  1. Soak the tofu knots for 2 hours until hydrated and softened. Drain
  2. Meanwhile, make the sauce in a large saucepan by combining the coca cola, ginger, soy sauce, sugar and Shaoxing wine. Simmer this for 15 minutes to reduce the liquid down.
  3. Now add the tofu knots into the liquid and simmer for 10 minutes to soak up the coca cola sauce, then take them out and leave to cool whilst the sauce continues to thicken slowly.
  4. In a large separate pan, heat up the oil to get ready to deep dry
  5. Coat the cooled tofu knots in the cornflour then once the oil is hot, fry the tofu knots on each side for about 1 minute until crispy. Drain on a tea towel once you are ready to remove excess oil.
  6. When ready to serve, pierce them onto skewer sticks and baste with the reduced coca cola sauce.
  7. Garnish with some toasted sesame seeds and spring onions before serving.
  8. Great in a salad or as finger food if you don't want to use skewers.
